      Homozygous mutants are mostly embryonic lethal; 50% die before cuticle formation, and 9.5% of embryos show a weak denticle belt fusion phenotype.

      When Cow5Δ clones are generated in the wing disc, 89.4% of mutants die before the larval stage, and 9.3% die at the pupal stage. The escapers (1.3%) all show a wing-loss phenotype.
