The P{EP} element in P{EP}GE28938 has been partially excised, removing 2.8kb from its 5' end.
Homozygous Ubp64EΔ1 mutant embryos do not display any obvious developmental defects.
Adult Ubp64EΔ1 mutant flies have a rough eye phenotype, characterised by distorted eye morphology, an irregular facet arrangement and disorganised bristles. Flies also have an extra bristle at multiple ommatidial vertices.
The ommatidia in Ubp64EΔ1 mutant eye discs are clearly disorganised and frequently contain three instead of four cone cells. Supernumerary photoreceptors are also seen.

One copy of Ubp64EΔ1 strongly suppresses the adult eye morphology phenotype seen when ttk69.Scer\UAS is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF. The cone cell disruption see in pupal eye discs is also suppressed, as is the disruption to the photoreceptor pattern.
