Description

Imprecise excision of the progenitor insertion has resulted in a deletion that extends from the codon encoding amino acid residue 397 of sec6 through the end of the transcription unit and continues to the 21st base pair of the 5' untranslated region of the neighbouring Eip55E gene.

Comment:

Deletion of part of Sec6 resulting from imprecise excsion of P{EP}Eip55EEP2021. The deletion location was estimated from the report that the Eip55EEx15 deletion extends from amino acid 397 of Sec6 to the 21st base pair of the 5' untranslated region of Eip55E. The deletion was mapped from the first base of Sec6 codon 397 to the insertion site of P{EP}Eip55EEP2021 in the 5' UTR of Eip55E.

Sec6Ex15/Sec6Ex15 class IV da neurons in larval somatic clones manifest defects in dendritic growth (thinning of terminal dendrites, reduced total dendrite length and number of terminal branches, decreased number of dendritic intersections, varicosities).

Homozygous, sec6Ex15/Df(2R)PC4 and sec6Ex15/Df(2R)Ex212 larvae die from growth arrest at 96 hours after egg laying (AEL). The larvae are much smaller than normal, never being larger than wild-type larvae at 24 hours AEL.

Females containing homozygous germline clones do not lay eggs. Egg chambers form and exit the germarium in these females, but after stage 3, cell membranes are frequently absent between the germ line cells and ring canals are clumped together in the middle of a large, multinucleate cell. When individual cells can be distinguished in the mutant egg chamber, the oocyte is often mispositioned anteriorly.

Sec6Ex15/RopG27 transheterozygous third instar larvae show decreased number of terminal dendritic branches in the class IV dendritic arborizing neurons compared to either Sec6Ex15/+ or RopG27/+ single heterozygotes.

The fraction of oocytes showing endocytic activity is reduced compared to wild type in EndoB54/Sec6Ex15 double heterozygotes.
