      Expression of Hsap\GALEScer\UAS.cSa under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI rescues the lethality caused by expression of GaleNIG.12030R under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI. The rescued males and females show normal fecundity (number of offspring produced when mated to wild-type flies of the opposite sex).

      The short lived phenotype seen in adult males and females expressing GaleNIG.12030R under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI from the late larval or early-to-mid-pupal stage onwards (the temperature sensitive Scer\GAL80ts.αTub84B allele is used to regulate the timing of expression) in the presence of 175mM galactose is completely suppressed by expression of Hsap\GALEScer\UAS.cSa under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI.

      Expression of Hsap\GALEScer\UAS.cSa using either Scer\GAL4arm.PS or Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI rescues the lethality of GaleΔy/Galef00624 animals. Rescued animals are viable, fertile, and appear morphologically normal.

      Expression of Hsap\GALEScer\UAS.cSa using Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI rescues the lethality of GaleNIG.12030R, Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI animals. Rescued animals are viable, fertile, and appear morphologically normal.

      Expression of Hsap\GALEScer\UAS.cSa using Scer\GAL4drm.7.1 partially rescues the lethality of GaleΔy/Galef00624 animals, whereas use of Scer\GAL4elav-C155 or Scer\GAL4c754 is completely insufficient to rescue or delay lethality of this genotype.
