XNP1/XNP3 or XNP2/XNP3 flies have reduced viability and no melanotic masses (XNP1/+, XNP2/+ or XNP3/+ flies are viable and have no melanotic masses).

XNP3 suppresses variegation of the Ecol\lacZ reporter carried on In(3L)BL1.

Homozygous females produce a limited amount of eggs that nevertheless hatch.

Paternal chromatin assembly occurs normally in eggs derived from XNP2/XNP3 females.

Homozygous flies show a significant reduction in viability at both pupal and adult stages compared to controls.
