In Bsgδ265 mutant eye clones, photoreceptor nuclei are scattered throughout the retina.

In mosaic Bsgδ265 mutant eye clones the nuclei of the subretinal (including the fenestrated and pseudocartridge glia) and satellite glia remain in their normal positions. However, epithelial glia are displaced within the lamina neuropile.

Approximately 75-80% of homozygotes die as embryos.

Mosaic animals in which the eyes are homozygous for Bsgδ265 show mislocation of photoreceptor nuclei in 16-50% of cases (average number of misplaced nuclei is 22%).

Rough endoplasmic reticulum (rER) is found misplaced into mutant photoreceptor axon terminals in the lamina of mosaic animals in which the photoreceptors are mutant for Bsgδ265 in an otherwise wild-type background (the rER is normally confined distally to the photoreceptor cell body in the overlying retina). In addition, mitochondria are also misplaced, accumulating in excessive numbers in the distal portion of photoreceptor terminals. The mutant photoreceptors also show a clear increase in axon terminal size, with profiles that are more than 80% larger in cross-sectional area than controls.
