Mutant females show reduced mating success compared to control females. The level of courtship activity elicited in wild-type males by mutant females is comparable to that elicited by control females. The mutant females are approached by males, who attempt to copulate, but in most cases, without success. The mutant females show different behaviour in response to courting males compared to control females; although decamping is the most prevalent response pattern of the females in boht cases, the mutant females show flying and jumping significantly more often that wild-type females, in addition to decamping.

    Comments

Precise excision of the insertion completely reverts the reduced mating success of mutant females.
