Homozygous clones in the wing result in a non-autonomous reduction of wing size and growth along the proximodistal (PD) axis, which is evident in both the wing blade and hinge. The wing blade clones tend to sort out from the surrounding wild-type cells, forming vesicles. Clones located close to the dorsoventral boundary sometimes induce non-autonomous duplications of wing margin structures. Clones near the anterior-posterior boundary of the wing hinge sometimes show cell autonomous differentiation of lateral hinge elements.
Etymology: the allele is named "aerodrome" after pre-Wright Brothers attempts at heavier-than-air flight.
