BursZ5569 homozygote females reared at elevated temperatures (up to 29[o]C) exhibit a significant delay in migration of border cell clusters in the egg chambers compared to controls.

The midguts of 10-14 day old BursZ5569/BursZ5569 mutants display intestinal stem cell hyperproliferation, and abnormal epithelial multilayering, as compared to controls.

The midguts of 10-14 day old BursZ5569/+ mutants display intestinal stem cell hyperproliferation, as compared with wild type.

As in wild type, no bursCCAP neurons are seen in the ventral nerve cord of BursZ5569 mutant flies at 3-4 days post-eclosion.

The programmed cell death which is seen in wild-type wings during wing maturation after eclosion still occurs in bursZ5569/bursZ4410 and bursZ5569/Df(3R)Exel6187 flies.

Homozygous, hemizygous and bursZ1091/bursZ5569 flies fail to spread their wings following eclosion and show prolonged retention of the elongate abdomen shape which is characteristic of a newly eclosed fly. By the day after eclosion, the abdomen has shortened, but it fails to taper into the normal adult shape, consistent with a failure to sclerotise properly. bursZ5569 mutant flies are delayed in melanisation, with only 40% completing the process during the 3 hours following eclosion, but they inflate their thoracic cuticle normally. bursZ1091/bursZ5569 adults are slow to pigment, with only 18% completing pigmentation within 3 hours of eclosion. These flies also have crossed postscutellar bristles.
