Expression of lokScer\UAS.cPa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF does not cause obvious eye degeneration.

Expression of lokScer\UAS.cPa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF does not result in an overt phenotype in the eye and no apoptotic cells are detected in third larval instar eye discs. Irradiated eye discs from larvae expressing lokScer\UAS.cPa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF posterior to the morphogenetic furrow show high numbers of apoptotic cells in this area (wild-type irradiated discs have an increased number of apoptotic cells both anterior and posterior to the furrow).

Co-expression of lokScer\UAS.cPa and p53Scer\UAS.cPa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF results in almost complete loss of the eye. Excessive apoptosis is seen in third larval instar eye discs in these animals. The small eye phenotype caused by expression of p53S4A.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF is not altered by coexpression of lokScer\UAS.cPa.
