Detailed Description

Homozygous clones do not generate any defects in the self-renewal of larval brain neuroblasts.

wdbIP mutant eyes show no normal eye tissue, and differentiated adult ommatidia do not form.

In large wdbIP mutant clones, cells are frequently extruded basally from mutant eye imaginal discs. Elevated levels of cell death are observed throughout eye discs.

Overexpression of wdbIP under the control of Scer\GAL4ap-md544 (using the P{EP}wdbEP3559 insertion) results in no cells in the fifth wing cell having a multiple wing hair phenotype. Homozygous wdbIP clones have no effect in hair formation or polarity. Homozygous clones cause outgrowths in the wing and eye. wdbdw/wdbIP escapers have bald patches on the wing blade where hair formation has either failed or is compromised. The stunted hairs in these regions sometimes have altered polarity.
