Detailed Description

Animals homozygous for rapsΔ50 exhibit only rare defects in asymmetric divisions in the wing margin. rapsΔ50/raps193 transheterozygous mutants exhibit extensive asymmetric division phenotypes in all tissues analysed. These phenotypes can be rescued through expression of the rapshs.PP transgene.

In mutant pI cells, like the wild-type, no rotation is observed in late metaphase.

In mutant embryos, 33% of neuroblast show apical-basal spindle orientation (compared to 70% in wild-type).

The proportion of hemisegments with abnormal number of neurons in the asymmetrically dividing RP2 neural lineage is significantly increased in wtsx1/+;pinsΔ50/+ double heterozygous embryos compared to either of the single heterozygotes or wild type.

Overexpression of G-oα47AScer\UAS.cKa, under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 in a rapsΔ50 heterozygous background results in a significant enhancement of the asymmetric division defects observed in G-oα47AScer\UAS.cKa Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 mutants.
