Embryos carrying nosΔBX in a nos- background and carrying two copies of smg+t13.5 develop 5 to 6 abdominal segments. Embryos carrying nosΔBX in a nos- background and carrying two copies of smg+t13.5 develop 2 abdominal segments. BicDunspecified embryos develop abdominal segments in the anterior of the embryo. This phenotype is suppressed by smg+t13.5; wild-type head and thoracic segments are specified normally and in many cases the embryos hatch.
