Inversion chromosome, with the proximal breakpoint just downstream of the first upd1 exon.
Migration of prospective border follicle cells in upd1sisC-5/upd1YM55 animals is delayed or defective. Marker analysis suggests that these cells are at least partially transformed to a nurse follicle cell fate.
In upd1sisC-5 egg chambers, border cell migration is dramatically inhibited. The outer border cell clusters also consist of an average of 2.5 cells, as compared to 6 in wild-type.
Viability is variably reduced (females more than males), females are sterile and flies show tergite defects.
