Cytology

Associated with In(2R)Arp1 with P-derived sequences at either end. Deficiency analysis shows that lethality common to Su(z)2Arp1 and Su(z)2Arp2 associated with the 49A12-B3 breakpoint. Reverts by reinversion in dysgenic (1/200) and control (1/2000) crosses.

Description

In situ hybridization with P element probe shows P element at both ends of the inversion. P element at the proximal breakpoint thought not to be in exon, and to be phenotypically silent, and is 0.8kb smaller in Su(z)2Arp2 than it is in Su(z)2Arp1.

Detailed Description

Mutation does not affect the level of w expression in ph-plac+3 flies.

Synergistic interaction exists with Su(z)2hs.PS, double heterozgous flies raised at 25 or 29oC display an enhanced bristle phenotype and enhance the arista to tarsus transformation of Su(z)2Arp1. There is no interaction with Pschs.PS.

Bristle development on the scutellar and dorsocentral macrochaetae on the dorsal thorax is affected: bristles reduced in size or missing. Aristae are transformed towards the tarsus. In double mutants of Df(2R)vg-D and Su(z)2Arp1 dramatic synergism is seen.

Partial transformation of arista towards tarsus and loss or decrease in size of the dorsocentral or scutellar bristles: variable expressivity and 100% penetrance.

Heterozygotes exhibit dominant partial transformation of arista to tarsus and a partial loss of the large medial thoracic bristles.
