Description

Deletion of DNA.

Imprecise excision of the P{bluetail} insertion deleting the major hypersensitive sites HS1 and HS2 but leaving HS3.

Deletion of two of the three DNaseI hypersensitive sites within the Fab-7 element.

Gene conversion event in which the P{bluetail}Abd-Bblt insertion has been excised and the gap has been repaired using a P{Abd-BFab7-2} insertion at 12E as the donor template. This results in a specific deletion of 789bp in the Fab-7 boundary region.

789bp deletion with a lesion in the Fab7 domain.

The P insertion plus 0.7kb of proximal flanking DNA is deleted, including at least one and possibly all of two of the three nuclease hypersensitive regions.

Detailed Description

Homozygous Abd-BFab7-2 mutant adult flies primarily show an A6 to A7 transformation, as evidenced by the reduction of the A6 tergite.

A6 assumes A7 identity in Abd-BFab7-2 males, so that in adults most of the sixth tergite and sternite are absent. Some cells of A6 are visible as a small tergite which adopts A5 identity.

In Abd-BFab7-2 heterozygous males the 6th segment (A6) assumes A7 identity: most of the sixth sternite and tergite are absent.

Heterozygous males have a reduced A6 segment.

Incomplete transformation of PS11 to PS12.

Homozygotes show incomplete transformation of abdominal segment A6 to A7.

Transforms parasegment 11 to parasegment 12 identity.

Incomplete transformation of abdominal segment 6 to A7 identity.

A6 is incompletely transformed into A7 in homozygotes. In homozygotes, a rudimentary 6th tergite is present.

When barrL305/+ is added to Abd-BFab7-2/+, nearly a complete reduction of abdominal segment A6 in 17%-31% of animals.

The heterozygous gain of function phenotype is enhanced by Polycomb group mutations such as Pc3, Pcl10, ScmD1 and Df(2R)trix.
