Description

P{bluetail} insertion on the proximal side of iab-7 region, just to the right of the Fab7 boundary. Insertion at position 124kb in the bithorax complex (Fbrf0058131).

Insertion of P element at map position +124.7, in or close to a nuclease hypersensitive site.

bluetail transposon inserted close to the Fab7 boundary at the proximal edge of the iab7 cis-regulatory domain.

Abd-BFab7-2.Fab8 mutant flies (in a Abd-Bblt background) show a transformation of A6 towards A5. The sixth sternite exhibits an A5 shape and has bristles. This transformation is less severe when the construct is inserted in the wild type orientation relative to the Abd-B gene. In the wild type orientation the trichomes cover most of the transformed segment, whereas in the opposite orientation the trichomes primarily cover the ventral-anterior region of the transformed segment.

Segments A6 and A7 show a more posterior identity when heterozygous with Abd-B- than when hemizygous.

Males exhibit a rudimentary 7th tergite.

Weak iab7 phenotype.

The bluetail transposon is under the influence of the iab7 cis-regulatory region, but not the more proximal iab5 and iab6 cis-regulatory domains. This suggests that the transposon has inserted into a regulatory domain flanked by border elements that have a similar function to scs and scs' of the Hsp70A locus.
