Detailed Description

Su(z)24 shows no dominant effect on telomeric Position Effect Variegation (PEV) in stocks carrying a variegating w+mW.hs allele at the telomeres of the second and third chromosome.

Chaetae loss phenotype of Su(z)24/Df(2R)vg62 or Su(z)24/Df(2R)vg-D is weaker than for Su(z)21/Df(2R)vg62 or Su(z)21/Df(2R)vg-D. Hemizygotes die as larvae/pupae.

In z1 wzm strain mutation causes reduction of eye pigmentation.

Heterozygotes with Df(2R)vg62 and with Df(2R)vg-D exhibit enhanced depilate phenotypes.

zeste-->orange-maroon eyes

Has no effect on the phenotypes of ct2s, ct4s and ct6, where the wing margin enhancer is completely blocked, or ctpN2s or ctn2s.

Suppression of z1 eye color, towards wild-type colour. Eye color of heterozygous females which are also z1/z1 : maroon (with subtle speckling). Eye color of heterozygous males which are also z1, wis/Y: maroon. Su(z)24 dominantly enhances the homeotic effect of the Psc "hopeful" alleles.

Dominant suppressor of z1 interaction with w.

Heterozygous flies modify the yellow eyes of z1 to orange maroon: dominant suppressors of z1 eye colour.

Gelbart.

Su(z)24 is an unstable allele as two isolates have been identified with distinct molecular signatures. Both isolates contain an 8-bp deletion in exon 5, but one (termed Su(z)24-34) contains an ~9kb insertion in intron 1 while the other (termed Su(z)24-31) does not. It is not certain that either isolate corresponds to the original Su(z)24 mutation.

Comments
Comments

Order of suppression strength: Su(z)22 > Su(z)23 > Su(z)24.

Fails to complement: Psc1. Complements: PscArp.1.

Reduced viability when heterozygous with Psc1.
