4kb insertion in g.
Mutant flies show a reduction in survival on a glycerol only food source compared to control flies.
Mutant flies show some decrease in ommochrome pigment levels and a significant reduction in drosopterin pigment levels compared to wild type.
Mutant males have a shortened adult life span compared to controls, with a mean life span of 27.41 days at 25o.
Eye colour: the drosopterin (red pigment) content of g1 flies is reduced compared to wild type. Eye colour: the drosopterin (red pigment) content of g1 rb1 double mutant flies is reduced to 18% of wild type. Eye colour: the xanthommatin (brown pigment) content of g1 flies is reduced to 58% of wild type. Eye colour: the xanthommatin (brown pigment) content of g1 rb1 double mutant flies is reduced to 41% of wild type. Mutant flies show disturbed orientation behaviour and walking speed in a behavioural assay.
Eye colour: red pigments are reduced to 57 +/- 2% of wild-type levels, brown pigments are reduced to 25 +/- 3% of wild-type levels in females. Red pigments are reduced to 72 +/- 4% of wild-type levels, brown pigments are reduced to 66 +/- 1% of wild-type levels in males. Malpighian tubule colour: colourless (wild-type colour is orange). Testis colour: pale yellow (wild-type colour is bright yellow).
Lightly pigmented eyes and some pigment deposition in the ocelli.

The glycerol hypersensitivity of flies expressing GykdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4c564 (seen as a reduction in survival on a glycerol only food source) is enhanced if the flies are also heterozygous for g1.
The reduction in drosopterin pigment levels seen in flies carrying wdsRNA.GMR is enhanced manyfold if they are also mutant for g1.
The reduction in the number of dendritic endpoints of dorsal dendritic arborisation neurons which is seen in larvae expressing NakdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4109(2)80 is not enhanced by g1/+.
g1 is a complex modifier of the eye phenotype caused by expression of bchsEP2299 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF.
g1, we(g) double mutant flies have significantly lower levels of red pigment in their eyes than g1 single mutants. Likewise, Df(1)HA92/g1, we(g)/+ mutants have lower levels of red pigment in the eye than Df(1)HA92/g1 single mutants. Further, g1, Df(1)N-8/+ double mutant flies have less red pigment in their eyes than the g1, we(g) double mutants, while g1, Df(1)N-8/we(g) flies have the least pigment of the mutant combinations described here.
Eye colour: nearly white, with ltd1. Pale eye color due to the absence of pteridines and brown pigment.
