Expression in epidermis in a weak striped pattern.

In germ-band extended embryos, strong expression in the mesoderm, but characteristic ftz expression in the ectoderm is greatly reduced. Expressed in even parasegments. In later embryos, expression is observed in the CNS.

In gastrulating embryos, two weaker stripes observed anterior to the cephalic furrow (unlike wild-type ftz pattern). During mid-embryogenesis expression also observed in pairs of large cells; assumed to be neuroblasts. Expression throughout the ventral nerve cord (not in pair-rule pattern). Very weak epidermal expression.

Comments

construct_comment: Defined 3 regulatory regions: the zebra element, the neurogenic element, and the upstream element.

report comment: Contains the ftz "zebra element" and "neurogenic element" enhancers.

construct_comment: One of a series of lacZ reporter constructs designed to characterize 5\' regulatory elements of ftz.
