Gene Snapshot
Ribosomal protein L27A (RpL27A) encodes a ribosomal structural constituent. [Date last reviewed: 2019-07-11]
Gene Group (FlyBase)
CYTOPLASMIC LARGE RIBOSOMAL PROTEINS -
Cytoplasmic ribosomes are found on the endoplasmic reticulum and in the cytoplasm. They translate all mRNAs produced from nuclear genes and perform the majority of cellular protein synthesis. Ribosomes are formed by two ribonucleoprotein subunits, large and small. The principle function of the large subunit is to bind tRNA during the synthesis of polypeptides. (Adapted from FBrf0205398).
Phenotypic Description (Red Book; Lindsley and Zimm 1992)
M(2)24F
Medium Minute with good characteristics. About two days delay in puparium formation (Dunn and Mossige, 1937, Hereditas 23: 70-90). RK2.

Structure
Protein 3D structure   (Predicted by AlphaFold)   (AlphaFold entry P41092)

If you don't see a structure in the viewer, refresh your browser.
Model Confidence:
  • Very high (pLDDT > 90)
  • Confident (90 > pLDDT > 70)
  • Low (70 > pLDDT > 50)
  • Very low (pLDDT < 50)

AlphaFold produces a per-residue confidence score (pLDDT) between 0 and 100. Some regions with low pLDDT may be unstructured in isolation.

RNAi screen using dsRNA made from templates generated with primers directed against this gene results in aberrantly short, monopolar spindles when assayed in S2 cells. This phenotype can be observed when the screen is performed with or without Cdc27 dsRNA.

          Minute gene.

Deletions removing RpL27A but no other cytoplasmic ribosomal protein-encoding genes show Minute phenotypes.

Molecularly-defined mutations in RpL27A result in Minute phenotypes.

RNAi generated by PCR using primers directed to this gene causes a cell growth and viability phenotype when assayed in Kc167 and S2R+ cells.

          1 allele of l(2)SH0840 recovered in a P-insertion screen.

Could correspond to M(2)24F, but no experimental data.

One of a class of genes (see MIN record) that when present in one, rather than two, copies, produce a characteristic phenotype consisting of short slender bristles and delayed development.

          Additional comments

Annotation CG15442 split into CG15442 (RpL27A), CG33002 in release 3 of the genome annotation.

"RpL27A" could correspond to "M(2)24F", but no experimental data.
