Oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) is the coordinated transfer of electrons and protons leading to the production of ATP and is the major source of ATP in aerobic organisms. The OXPHOS system is composed of five multiprotein enzyme complexes (I-V) which may be composed of differentially expressed subunit variants (Adapted from PMID:11331900).
