      nkd13/nkd13 embryos exhibit stretches of excess naked cuticle (predominantly in rows 3 to 7 ). They also show near-normal denticle belts that are uninterrupted by naked patches but contain ectopic small denticles anteriorly to these belts.

      nkd2/nkd13 or nkdΔhis/nkd13 transheterozygous embryos exhibit defective denticle belts.
