The neuromuscular junctions of third instar larval Pi3K68DAH1 mutants do not show significant changes in bouton or active zone density, as compared to controls. There is a significant decrease in EPSC and a small but significant decrease in quantal content, but no apparent changes in mEPSP and EPSP amplitudes, as compared to controls. Upon the expression of Pi3K68DUAS.EGFP under the control of Scer\GAL4C57, but not when under the control of Scer\GAL4VGlut-OK371, there is a decrease in mEPSP amplitude, as compared to controls.
The third instar larval muscles of Pi3K68DAH1 mutants show significantly fewer recycling endosomes (Rab11-positive puncta) in the region adjacent to the synapse, but no changes in the number of late endosomes (Rab7-positive puncta), as compared to controls.
