Deletion that removes the 5'UTR and start codon of clu. Generated by imprecise excision of P{SUPor-P}cluKG02346.
cluΔW homozygous as well as cluΔW/clud08713 transheterozygous mutant third instar larvae display mitochondrial morphology defects - clustered, rounded mitochondria with disrupted cristae - in larval muscles and these larvae also display significant locomotion deficit (reduced crawling speed).
Indirect flight muscles in 4-day-old cluΔW/clud08713 adults are not apoptotic (assessed by TUNEL assay).
cluΔW has abnormal locomotor behavior | third instar larval stage phenotype, non-enhanceable by park1/park1
cluΔW/cluΔW is a non-enhancer of abnormal locomotor behavior | third instar larval stage phenotype of park1
cluΔW has mitochondrion | third instar larval stage phenotype, enhanceable by park1/park1
cluΔW/cluΔW is an enhancer of mitochondrion | third instar larval stage phenotype of park1
cluΔW, park1/park[+] has mitochondrion | third instar larval stage phenotype
cluΔW/+;park1/+ double heterozygous larvae show abnormal clustering of mitochondria around nuclei in muscle cells that is not observed in either of the single heterozygotes.
The mitochondrial morphology defects observed in larval muscles of both cluΔW and park1 homozygotes are exacerbated further in the double mutants, moreover while either cluΔW or park1 are partially lethal with about 5-10% of adult escapers, cluΔW/cluΔW;park1/park1 mutants do not yield any viable adults. On the other hand the larval locomotor deficit of either of the single mutants is not significantly worsened in the double mutants.
cluΔW/clud08713 is rescued by cluUAS.Tag:MYC/Scer\GAL4Mef2.PR
The abnormal mitochondrial morphology - clustered, rounded mitochondria - observed in muscles 6 and 7 of cluΔW/clud08713 mutant larvae can be rescued to wild-type appearance by Scer\GAL4Mef2.PR-driven expression of cluUAS.Tag:MYC (which on its own also induces defects in mitochondrial morphology).
