Detailed Description
Statement
Reference

GATAe1 homozygotes die as first instar larvae and display morphological defects in the midgut. Combination with Df(3R)sbd45 is also lethal. GATAe1 homozygote somatic MARCM clones induced in the adult posterior midgut fail to grow and lack well-developed brush-border, they do not contain any mitotic intestinal stem cells (ISCs) and majority of them lacks ISCs (marked by Dl expression) altogether. The failure of GATAe1 clones to grow is not due to apoptosis. nub MARCM clones also show decrease in the frequency of differentiated enterocytes and enteroendocrine cells (marked by nub and pros protein expression, respectively).

Additional Comments
Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

The small size of GATAe1 homozygote MARCM clone in adult posterior midgut is not rescued by expression of NICN.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI.

Xenogenetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

The small clone size as well as the lack of differentiated enterocytes and enteroendocrine cells in GATAe1 homozygote MARCM clone in adult posterior midgut is not rescued by expression of BacA\p35Scer\UAS.cUa under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI.

Comments

Expression of GATAeScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI in GATAe1 homozygote MARCM clones in adult posterior midgut weakly rescues the growth inhibition of GATAe1 clones at day 7 post-clone induction as well as the loss of intestinal stem cells, differentiated enterocytes and enteroendocrine cells in these clones.
