Expression of Dh31Scer\UAS.cKa under the control of Scer\GAL4nSyb.PU suppresses nighttime sleep specifically during the second half of the night. The decrease in sleep is accompanied by an increase in sleep fragmentation.

Expression of Dh31Scer\UAS.cKa under the control of either Scer\GAL4GMR21E02, Scer\GAL4GMR21C09 or Scer\GAL4GMR20D02 has no significant effect on the amount of nighttime sleep.

Expression of Dh31Scer\UAS.cKa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR20A02 results in a significant decrease in nighttime sleep compared to controls, with the effect being strongest in the second half of the night. The reduction in sleep is accompanied by decreased sleep consolidation and increase waking locomotor activity.

Expression of Dh31Scer\UAS.cKa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR43D05 significantly suppresses nighttime sleep. This phenotype is strongly reduced if the flies are also carrying Scer\GAL80cry.PS.
