Expression of Mmus\Cul1Scer\UAS.cHa in the third instar larval wing imaginal disc, under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 leads to a strong reduction in the size of the wing without any gross patterning defects. This is more severe in males than females, due to dosage compensation of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 levels. Increasing transgene copy reduces the wing to a rudimentary stump. Reduced wings occasionally show a multiple wing hair phenotype in which several trichomes instead of just one are produced by individual intervein cells, particularly in the region near the anterior crossvein.

Wing hair density is unchanged by expression of Mmus\Cul1Scer\UAS.cHa under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096, even when there is a dramatic effect on wing size.

Co-expression of BacA\p35Scer\UAS.cHa rescues the reduction in wing size seen in Mmus\Cul1Scer\UAS.cHa Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096, indicating that Mmus\Cul1Scer\UAS.cHa induces elevated apoptosis. BacA\p35Scer\UAS.cHa expression also suppresses the multiple wing hair phenotype.

Co-expression of Cul1Scer\UAS.cHa with Mmus\Cul1Scer\UAS.cHa in the third instar larval wing imaginal disc, under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 suppresses the wing reduction phenotype induced by Mmus\Cul1Scer\UAS.cHa overexpression alone.
