eyacli-IID/Df(2L)BSC354 eyaGRΔPSE adult escapers are occasionally seen. They are unable to move normally, rapidly fall into the food and die. They show strong eye defects, including a glazed appearance and the occasional presence of melanotic tissue. The defects are more severe towards the posterior margin of the eye, with the anterior region having disorganised ommatidia while the posterior region shows a severe loss of rhabdomeres and an excess of pigment cells. At the pupal stage, a clear loss of cone cells is seen, some ommatidia appear to be fused and the retina shows an excess of interommatidial cells.
