The egg laying defects of Ote^unspecified females are rescued by expression of either bocks^hs.α or bocks^hs.β but not by expression of MAN1^hs.PB.

The decrease in the number of primordial germ cells per larval ovary which is seen in Ote^unspecified mutants is enhanced if the larvae are also mutant for bocks^unspecified.

Introduction of one copy of Ote^unspecified into females expressing tkv^{ca.Scer\UAS.P\T} under the control of Scer\GAL4^{nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16} results in some of the germline stem cell-like cells in the ovaries differentiating into cyst cells with highly branched fusomes. The germaria are attached with a long string of egg chambers and fertility is restored.

Females expressing tkv^{ca.Scer\UAS.P\T} under the control of Scer\GAL4^{nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16} in a homozygous Ote^unspecified background have a phenotype that is similar to that found in Ote^unspecified single mutants; the majority of germaria are either empty or contain only differentiated germ cells.
