In adult mechanosensory neurons expressing PRL-1UAS.cPa under the control of Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237, axon terminals appear less mature than controls but do not show significant changes in terminal arbor territory; axons show small protrusions on the main axon branch that show significantly more synapses (Syt1 puncta), and even longer filopodium-like protrusions in terminal region, which are not detected in controls.

Posterior dorsocentral bristle neurons of individuals that are both PRL-12/PRL-14 transheterozygous and express PRL-1UAS.cPa under the control of Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237 do not show significant projection defects (terminal arbor territory or number of synapses/ Syt1-positive puncta) in the contralateral branch, as compared to controls.

Expression of PRL-1Scer\UAS.cPa in the posterior compartment of the wing disc under the control of Scer\GAL4en-e16E reduces the surface area of the adult wing by 20%. Expression in the dorsal compartment using Scer\GAL4ap-md544 leads to an upwards curvature, which is also indicative of a decrease in surface area.

Expression of PRL-1Scer\UAS.cPa in the developing eye (using Scer\FLP1ey.4x.Exel under the control of Scer\GAL4Scer\FRT.Rnor\CD2.Act5C) leads to a smaller eye and head capsule.

Wing disc clones expressing PRL-1Scer\UAS.cPa (under the control of Scer\GAL4Scer\FRT.Rnor\CD2.Act5C) contain fewer cells than controls.

Ubiquitous expression of PRL-1Scer\UAS.cPa under the control of Scer\GAL4Act.PU prevents larval growth; although the larvae consume food, most stall in the first instar larval stages of development for 2-6 days before dying. The larvae do not exhibit any obvious morphological defects.

Flies co-expressing PRL-1Scer\UAS.cPa and PRL-1Scer\UAS.NC in the dorsal compartment of the wing disc under the control of Scer\GAL4ap-md544 do not display any wing curvature.

Expression of PRL-1Scer\UAS.cPa partially suppresses the pupal lethality seen when Src64BUY1332 is expressed in the dorsal compartment of the wing disc under the control of Scer\GAL4ap-md544, enabling 45% of the expected adults to eclose. The overgrowth and apoptosis seen in the larval wing discs are also suppressed by PRL-1Scer\UAS.cPa.

Expression of PRL-1Scer\UAS.cPa enhances the lethality seen when Ras85DV12.Scer\UAS is expressed in the dorsal compartment of the wing disc under the control of Scer\GAL4ap-md544. Fewer than 10% of mutants reach the prepupal stage, compared to 90% when Ras85DV12.Scer\UAS is expressed alone. The larvae appear lethargic.
