Flies expressing Ubp64EScer\UAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF have a rough eye phenotype. As well as distorted eye morphology and irregular arrangement of the ommatidia, a clear reduction in the number of ommatidial bristles is seen. The ommatidia in 40hr old pupal eye discs are disorganised and frequently contain five cone cells, rather than the usual four. Photoreceptor cell formation is also inhibited, leading to fewer than the normal complement of eight photoreceptors.

Co-expression of ttk69.Scer\UAS and Ubp64EScer\UAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF causes dramatically defective eye development, more severe than is seen when either transgene is expressed alone. The cone cell disruption seen in the ommatidia of pupal eye discs is also enhanced, as is the disruption to the photoreceptor pattern.
