Imprecise excision of the progenitor insertion.
Mutant embryos show defects in the orientation of neuroblast cell polarity, with the crescent of the Par-complex being variably oriented. The orientation of the spindle is well coordinated with the orientation of cell polarity in the mutant neuroblasts. The defects in orientation of neuroblast cell polarity result in neuroblasts, ganglion mother cells and neurons being intermingled, resulting in disorganised stratification of the developing central nervous system in the mutant embryos.
The eve-positive U neurons derived from neuroblast NB7-1 and the four eg-positive neurons derived from neuroblast NB7-3 adopt nearly normal positions in mutant embryos. The fasciculation pattern of Fas2-positive motor neurons in stage 15 mutant embryos is nearly normal.
