Expression of dar1Scer\UAS.cYa under the control of Scer\GAL4eve.RN2 (in unipolar motor neurons) leads to supernumerary neurites extending from the soma, and subsequent multipolar morphology of those neurons.

Expression of dar1Scer\UAS.cYa under the control of Scer\GAL4P2.4.Pdf (in adult unipolar PDF neurons) or in larval bipolar es neurons using Scer\GAL4unspecified leads to an increased number of primary dendrites, and multipolar neuron morphology.

Overexpression of dar1Scer\UAS.cYa with the driver Scer\GAL4477 causes dramatic overgrowth of dendrites in the class IV da neurons in early third-instar larvae. Similarly, the total dendritic length of these neurons is increased compared to controls. Sholl analysis shows that the increase in branch number and length takes place throughout the dendritic fields rather than being restricted to particular regions. No change in the size of dendritic fields or dendritic tiling is observed.

Using the Flip-out technique, overexpression of dar1Scer\UAS.cYa in class IV da neuron or class I da neuron axons under the control of Scer\GAL4477 does not significantly affect axon growth. Overexpression in class III da neurons increases the number of long curvy terminal branches.

The supernumerary dendrite phenotype seen in animals expressing dar1Scer\UAS.cYa under the control of Scer\GAL4eve.RN2 (in unipolar motor neurons) or Scer\GAL4P2.4.Pdf (in adult unipolar PDF neurons) is greatly reduced in sw1/+ mutants and nudE11R2/+ mutants.

Coexpression of nudCHMS00258 partially rescues the supernumerary dendrite phenotype seen in animals expressing dar1Scer\UAS.cYa under the control of Scer\GAL4eve.RN2 (in unipolar motor neurons).
