Expression of sliJF01229 under the control of Scer\GAL4elav-C155 (in sli2/+ background), Scer\GAL4repo (in sli2/+ background) or Scer\GAL4ey-OK107 (in Df(2R)BSC482/+ background) leads to ectopic inner proliferating center cell clusters in the medulla of third instar larvae (higher penetrance with Scer\GAL4elav-C155 than Scer\GAL4repo) when compared to controls.

Expression of sliJF01229 under the control of Scer\GAL4elav-C155 (in Df(2R)BSC482/+ background), Scer\GAL4repo (in Df(2R)BSC482/+ background), Scer\GAL4ey-OK107 (in Df(2R)BSC482/+ background, in combination with Dicer-2) or Scer\GAL4ap-md544 (in Df(2R)BSC482/+ background, in combination with -Dicer-2) leads to defects in the adult optic lobes (higher penetrance with Scer\GAL4ey-OK107 than Scer\GAL4ap-md544) when compared to controls.

In detail: expression of sliJF01229 under the control of Scer\GAL4elav-C155 (in Df(2R)BSC482/+ background) or Scer\GAL4ey-OK107 (in Df(2R)BSC482/+ background, in combination with Dicer-2) but not Scer\GAL4repo (inDf(2R)BSC482/+ background) or Scer\GAL4GMR.PU (in Df(2R)BSC482/+ background) leads to elongated optic lobes with either defects in the organization of the cell bodies (with Scer\GAL4elav-C155 in Df(2R)BSC482/+ background) or disturbed innervation patterns of photoreceptor cells (with Scer\GAL4ey-OK107 (in Df(2R)BSC482/+ background, in combination with Dicer-2); its expression under the control of Scer\GAL4repo (in Df(2R)BSC482/+ background) leads to defects in the optic lobe organization and a decrease in the ratio between the distal medulla cortex and optic lobe areas; and its expression under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU (in Df(2R)BSC482/+ background) or Scer\GAL4repo (in Df(2R)BSC482/+ background) leads to defects in the medulla (specifically sporadic gaps with Scer\GAL4GMR.PU) and disturbed innervation patterns of photoreceptor cells when compared to control adults.

The expression of sliJF01229 under the control of Scer\GAL4pros-V1 leads to a significant increase in the number of pre-enteroendocrine cells, as compared to controls.

The adult sLNv neurons of sli2 heterozygotes that also express sliJF01229 under the control of Scer\GAL4ey-OK107 (in combination with Dicer-2, for efficient RNAi) exhibit significantly longer axon projections compared to controls.
