Description

Imprecise excision of the P{SUPor-P}ScgδKG05430 insertion, resulting in a deletion of approximately 6.5kb which extends from the original insertion site upstream of Scgδ exon 1 through exon 4.

Detailed Description

Mutant adults do not spend as much time in flight as wild-type controls when housed in a 20cm[3] box to permit ad libitum flight, but the amount of flight is sufficient to induce injury in the indirect flight muscles; muscle disruption is occasionally apparent in non-exercised mutant flies, but muscle tears in the indirect flight muscles are larger and more frequently seen in the exercised flies housed in the 20cm[3] box. Very rarely, infiltration of non-muscle cells that resemble hemocytes into the indirect flight muscles is seen in the exercised flies.

Mutant flies show age-dependent severe loss of climbing ability in a negative geotaxis assay.

The end-systolic and end-diastolic diameters of the heart as measured by optical coherence tomography are increased in the mutant adults compared to controls (indicating a dilated heart tube).

Scgδ840 mutants present a decreased adult lifespan, as compared to controls.

Additional Comments
Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

The severe loss of climbing ability in a negative geotaxis assay which is seen in Scgδ840 mutants is suppressed if the flies are also carrying either SmoxG0348/+, Mad12/+, Med13/+, Med17/+ or Med15/+.

The dilated heart tube seen in Scgδ840 adults (detected as increased end-systolic and end-diastolic diameters as measured by optical coherence tomography) is rescued if the flies are carrying either SmoxG0348/+ or Med13/+, but is not rescued if the flies are carrying Mad12/+.
