Expression of ERRJF02431 under the control of Scer\GAL4CG13917-BG01278 strongly decreases male fertility (number of progeny produced by wild-type females mated to the knock-down males) as the males show severely underdeveloped testicular lobes (deformed globular testes) and seminal vesicles as well as fusome morphological defects (reduced fusome branching). The males also show several ultrastructural abnormalities: disorganization of the sperm bundles, decreased size of the mitochondrial derivatives as well as disruption of the axoneme structure in the sperm flagella. The number of mature sperm stored in the seminal vesicles of the knock-down males is significantly reduced and mature sperm is dispersed throughout the deformed testes, females mated to the ERRJF02431-expressing males have either no or less sperm in their sperm storage organs.
