Description

Imprecise excision of the P{EPgy2}GRHREY11371 insertion, resulting in a deletion that removes the entire GRHR coding sequence. An approximately 450bp remnant of the insertion remains.

Comment:

Approximate boundaries of the AkhRnull deletion, which was reported as a deletion of the AkhR coding sequence and about 150 bp beyond AkhR, resulting from imprecise excsion of P{EPgy2}AkhREY11371. Approximately 400 bp of P element sequence remain.

Detailed Description

AkhRnull mutant adults have a significantly lower firing rate of interoceptive SEZ neurons than controls under starved, but not fed, conditions; unlike in controls, firing rate does not significantly increase during starvation.

1 week old GRHRnull flies have markedly larger cells in the fat body than control flies.

GRHRnull flies show no gross difference in food intake compared to controls under normal feeding conditions. After 18-24 hours starvation, GRHRnull flies show reduced food intake compared to controls.

Tissue size (wing, mesothorax and foreleg femur length) and cell size (wing cell size) in GRHRnull flies is indistinguishable from that of controls.

GRHRnull flies are markedly starvation resistant compared to controls, surviving for 3-4 days under starvation conditions and remaining fertile even after 48 hours of starvation.

Locomotor activity and circadian rhythm is normal in GRHRnull flies under normal feeding conditions. In addition, GRHRnull flies show no significant difference in locomotor activity compared to control flies during the first 24 hours of starvation.
