    Detailed Description
    Statement
    Reference

In kkvIB22/kkv63-20 mutants, the cuticular and luminal chitin of the tracheae is absent, and there are dilations and constrictions in the dorsal trunk and apical expansions in other branches. Defects in cuticle formation are also observed.

The head skeleton of mature mutant embryos is only weakly melanised, especially in the labrum and H-piece. The morphology of the head skeleton is also abnormal, for example the vertical plate has lost its typical fibrous ultrastructure. Homozygous clones induced in the larval imaginal discs that form the adult body do not affect larval viability, but result in pupal lethality.

    Comments

Scer\GAL4btl.PU-mediated expression of kkvScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP rescues kkvIB22/kkv63-20 defects and restores luminal accumulation of chitin.
