follicle cell & nucleus | somatic clone
agounspecified homozygous somatic clones in the ovarian follicle cells show no difference in growth rate compared to their wild-type sister (twin-spot) clones. BrdU incorporation and cell cycle marker expression is normal before stage 6 of oogenesis in these clones, and arrest of the mitotic cycle at stage 6 occurs normally. However, post stage 6 these cells have smaller nuclei and show much reduced BrdU incorporation compared to wild-type. At later stages, localised amplification of DNA fails to occur normally and some clone cells appear apoptotic.

Unlike either single heterozygote, ovaries from CSN4unspecified; agounspecified transheterozygous females exhibit ectopic cell death and increased or decreased nurse cells per egg chamber. Decreased nurse cell numbers per cyst are accompanied by an increase in nurse cell ploidy, suggesting that the decrease results from a block in cell division without a block in DNA replication. In addition, strongly DAPI staining regions of nurse cell nuclei (which may respond to compact heterochromatin) are enlarged compared to wild-type.
