Construct: A 3.6kb eye specific enhancer from an intron of ey is fused upstream of a minimal Hsp70 promoter driving expression of the msl-2 coding sequence (which lacks the regulatory Sxl protein binding sites in the msl-2 5' and 3' UTRs). The tra2 3' UTR and polyadenylation site is placed downstream of msl-2.
Expression of msl-2ey.hs results in a very mild rough eye phenotype in 2-5% of females.
msl-2ey.hs has visible | female limited phenotype, enhanceable by msl-1Hsp83.PC
msl-2ey.hs has eye phenotype, enhanceable by msl-1Hsp83.PC
The rough eye phenotype seen in females expressing msl-2ey.hs is strongly enhanced by co-expression of msl-1Hsp83.PC, but males expressing both msl-2ey.hs and msl-1Hsp83.PC have wild-type eyes. The mini-w gene in P{GMroX1}102C is derepressed in females if they also express msl-2ey.hs.
