Detailed Description
Statement
Reference

Animals carrying one copy of bifScer\UAS.cRa expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF show a mild defect in the R1-R6 termination layer. The lamina plexus is often split due to uneven termination of R1-R6 growth cones, while the R7 and R8 termination field in the medulla is largely normal. When two copies of bifScer\UAS.cRa are present, the phenotype is more severe; the number of prematurely terminated R cell axons increases dramatically and the R7 and R8 terminal field is severely disrupted. In addition, the organisation of photoreceptor cell clusters in the eye disc is severely disrupted, with many photoreceptor cell bodies migrating abnormally towards the most posterior end and accumulating at the entry point of the optic stalk. A small number of R7 axons terminate within the lamina soon after exiting the optic stalk in animals expressing bifScer\UAS.cRa under the control of Scer\GAL4sev.PM181.

Comments

Expression of bifScer\UAS.cRa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF largely rescues the R1-R6 targeting defects seen in bifR38/Y larvae.
