aur37/aur87Ac-3 larval brain neuroblasts show overproliferation.

Mutant bristles have two sockets and two hairs.

Homozygous mutant clones can be made in all tissues derived from the eye imaginal disk this includes most of the head cuticle. This leads to morphologically abnormal bristles that contain two hairs and two socket. This is caused by a failure in the asymmetric division of the mutant sensory organ precursor cells. Homozygous mutants, aur37/Df(3R)P-58 and aur37/aur87Ac-3 transheterozygous adults frequently form morphologically abnormal bristles that contain two hairs and two sockets. Bipolar mitotic spindles are formed in aur37 mutant cells, also the minus ends of the microtubules form a less focused pole around the centrosome. Mutants also exhibit defects in centrosome maturation. Spindle orientation however remains normal.

The overproliferation of larval brain neuroblasts seen in aur37/aur87Ac-3 animals is suppressed by expression of bazScer\UAS.P\T.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL41407.

Expression of l(2)glScer\UAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL41407 in aur37/aur37 mutants results in neuroblast overproliferation in the larval brain.

The duplication of sockets and hairs seen in mutant external sensory organs in aur37 mutants can be suppressed by expression of boraScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-S65T under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-109-68.
