gish04895/gishKG03891 as well as gishMI08417/gishKG03891 transheterozygous mutant males show decreased average number of germline stem cells in their testes already at post-eclosion day 1 and as the flies age the GSCs continue to be lost at a rapid rate, this however is not due to excessive apoptosis and neither do the mutant GSCs lose their adhesion to the hub cells as shown in gishMI08417/gishKG03891 males.

No significant difference in the number of GSCs is observed in gishKG03891 heterozygotes, as compared to wild-type controls.

Homozygotes show strong, but incomplete lethality.

Heterozygotes show a significant impairment in 3 minute, 30 minute and 3 hour memory after olfactory conditioning compared to wild-type flies.

Heterozygotes and homozygotes show normal shock and odour avoidance.

gishKG03891/+ does not modify the fused wing phenotype of flies expressing smoPKA12.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096, but the presence of gishKG03891/gishKG03891 clones in the wings of flies expressing smoPKA12.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 leads to a greatly enhanced fused wing phenotype.

The bang sensitive phenotype seen in parabss1/+ mutant females is not suppressed by one copy of gishKG03891.

Similarly, combination with gishnos.F also rescues the phenotype in gishMI08417/gishKG03891 mutants and both gish04895/gishKG03891 and gish04895/gishMI08417 mutants can be rescued by expression of gishScer\UAS.P\T.F under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16, while Scer\GAL4C587-driven expression fails to rescue the gishMI08417/gishKG03891 mutants.
