Detailed Description

At 29oC, expression of en::Xlae\Meis31-333.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 results in pupal lethality. At 24oC, pharate adults are formed. The pharate adults have enlarged eyes and in many cases ectopic eyes are seen. The antennae are partially transformed into legs; the third segment is transformed distally to distal leg tissue. The endogenous legs are malformed and truncated, with reduced proximal segments, abnormal mid-leg and loss of the most distal structures. Outgrowth of leg-like structures from the anal region is seen in flies expressing en::Xlae\Meis31-333.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1. The outgrowths have distal leg identity, as suggested by the presence of bracted bristles. A substantial enlargement of the presumptive anal region is seen in the genital discs.
