Insertion of P{SUPor-P} into intron 1 of eIF-4E, in tandem orientation. Insertion sites in eIF-4EScim-a and eIF-4EScim-b are identical.
mitosis & nuclear chromosome
Developmental arrest at third larval instar.
Dominantly decreases transmission of Dp(1;f)J21A to offspring to 13%. Recessive lethality acts at the third larval instar stage. Larval neuroblast squashes reveal an extremely low mitotic index. Interphase nuclei are two to four times the diameter of wild type nuclei. In rare nuclei the chromosome morphology is disrupted and the chromosomes appear hypocondensed.

Suppression of lethality of eIF-4EScim-a homozygotes allows emergence of viable (if a little small) adults. Weak rescue of eIF-4EScim-a/eIF-4E67Af by eIF-4ES251A.Scer\UAS is not improved by Lk6T424D.Scer\UAS.
