MESR4EP386 expression in larvae via Scer\GAL4ppl.PP results in an increase in free fatty acids in these animals. Lipid droplets in Scer\GAL4ppl.PP MESR4EP386 fat bodies are smaller than controls.

Expression using Scer\GAL4ey.PU does not induce a rough eye phenotype.

Homozygous MESR4EP386 mutant larvae show defects in irradiation-induced mitotic arrest. Wing discs contain on average 61 mitotic cells compared to 10 in wild type, although the phenotype is not completely penetrant. The amount of apoptosis seen is similar to wild type.

Expression of MESR4EP386 under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-537.4 results in potential shaft-to-socket transformations on the abdomen. Sensory organs with no socket and one shaft and rarely no socket, two shafts and two sheath cells and abnormal shaft morphology are seen.
