Imprecise excision of the P{EP} element resulting in a 1.7kb deletion in the Tom promoter region (nucleotides +1 to -1724 relative to the P{EP}EP487 insertion site). Part of the P{EP} element is still present.
Homozygous pharate adults fail to undergo head eversion.
Tom8 is a suppressor of lethal | recessive | larval stage phenotype of Su(H)8
Su(H)8, Tom[+]/Tom8 has lethal | recessive | pupal stage phenotype
Tom8 has adult head phenotype, suppressible by Su(H)8
Tom8 is a suppressor of eye-antennal disc phenotype of Su(H)8
The homozygous phenotype is partially suppressed by Su(H)8 Su(H)8/+ ; Tom8/Tom8 pharate adults show almost completely everted head structures. The larval lethality and small eye-antennal disc phenotype of Su(H)8 homozygotes can be partially rescued by Tom8 - Su(H)8/Su(H)8 ; Tom8/+ animals develop to the pupal stage with pharate adults showing partially everted heads.
