Description

UASt regulatory sequences drive expression of a chimeric protein consisting of the N-terminal dimerisation domain of Chi (lacking the LIM interaction domain) linked to a C-terminal fragment of ap which contains the homeodomain (amino acids 270 to 469).

Flies expressing ap::Chi^{ChAp.Scer\UAS} under the control of Scer\GAL4^dpp.blk1 produce ectopic wing margins on both sides of the stripe of Scer\GAL4^dpp.blk1 expression in the ventral compartment of the wing. Flies expressing ap::Chi^{ChAp.Scer\UAS} under the control of Scer\GAL4^ap-md544 have smaller than normal wings which are held in an abnormal position. The dorsal compartment is typically smaller than the ventral compartment, resulting in a slightly curled appearance. The pattern of wing veins is abnormal.

Rescues the wing defects of ap^md544/ap^P44 flies when expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4^ap-md544. Flies coexpressing Bx^EP1306 and ap::Chi^{ChAp.Scer\UAS} under the control of Scer\GAL4^ap-md544 have a normal wing margin and resemble the Bx^- mutant wing. The wing phenotype caused by ap::Chi^{ChAp.Scer\UAS} expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4^ap-md544 is suppressed by coexpression of Chi^{ΔLID.Scer\UAS}.
