Expression of DfdScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4rn.PU suppresses wing formation.

Expression of DfdScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 results in transformation of the arista to tarsus.

When DfdScer\UAS.cLa is driven by Scer\GAL4arm.PS the number of apoptotic cells seen in the embryonic head and abdominal segments increases substantially. When DfdScer\UAS.cLa is driven in the eye by Scer\GAL4GMR.PF a mild eye ablation phenotype is seen.

Embryos expressing DfdScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4arm.PS have ectopic mouth hook fragments and cirri. When the Scer\GAL4arm.PS driver is provided paternally, development of these ectopic maxillary structures is restricted largely to the labial and thoracic segments. When the Scer\GAL4arm.PS driver is provided maternally, development of these ectopic maxillary structures occurs throughout the trunk, including the abdominal segments. The number and segment-specific features of the thoracic and abdominal cuticle develop nearly normally in both cases.

Strong DfdScer\UAS.cLa expression in the antenna disc driven by Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 causes ingrowth of antennal disc tissue and produces adults with antennal third segments that are enlarged but not transformed into leg structures.

Co-expression of pbScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP suppresses the arista-to-tarsus transformation seen in flies expressing DfdScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1.

When thGMR.PH is added to DfdScer\UAS.cLa, Scer\GAL4GMR.PF animals the eye phenotype is almost completely suppressed.

The addition of cncB.hs suppresses the rescuing effect seen by DfdScer\UAS.cLa (when driven by Scer\GAL4arm.PS) on Dfd16 mutants.

Comments

When DfdScer\UAS.cLa driven by Scer\GAL4arm.PS is added to Dfd16 mutants, the maxillary mouth hooks and cirri are restored to near-normal morphology.
